Charleston Recognized Nationally and Globally as a Top Place to Live and Visit

Each year, it seems, our fine city scores an increasing number of national accolades touting various aspects of the quality of life that Charleston offers both residents and visitors. There are always the “usual suspects” — such as Southern Living magazine’s “Readers’ Choice” Awards and the coveted title of “Most Mannerly City” (which Charleston has won so many times, it now holds a “Lifetime Achievement Award”). But this year, in particular, Charleston rose to the top of some highly visible global lists, including one that recognizes the area’s economic development practices – a good sign that we are poised for a strong recovery as the economy begins to improve.

Daniel Island Farmers Market to Debut in April

The Daniel Island Business Association and Family Circle Tennis Center have announced the establishment of the Daniel Island Farmers Market, a new shopping opportunity for residents and visitors on Daniel Island. Taking place Thursday afternoons from April 30 through September 24 at the Family Circle Tennis Center, the Daniel Island Farmers Market will provide patrons with an opportunity to shop locally and mingle at this weekly community event.

Readers of the widely popular magazine named Charleston their Favorite Southern City and also give top-tier billing to the city for Best Weekend Getaway, Best Family Destination and Best Festivals. Thousands of Southern Living readers cast their ballots in scores of different categories for these much-anticipated annual honors.

The Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure® returns to its home on Daniel Island for the seventh consecutive year on Saturday, October 18th. This annual event has grown each year and now attracts thousands of participants and spectators in support of breast cancer education, prevention, treatment and research. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to show their support by participating in this scenic 5K (3.1 mile) course that starts in downtown Daniel Island, winds through several island neighborhoods and finishes at the Family Circle Tennis Center.

Daniel Island’s Family Circle Tennis Center Named One of Nation’s Top 50 Centers for Support of the Game

The Family Circle Tennis Center located on Daniel Island has been named one of the top 50 Tennis Welcome Centers in the United States for the second consecutive year by the Tennis Industry Association, the U.S. Tennis Association and Racquet Sports Industry Magazine.

Daniel Island Community Announces 52 Weeks of Thanks

In conjunction with the one-year anniversary of the tragic Sofa Super Store fire that claimed the lives of nine Charleston firefighters on June 18, 2007, the Daniel Island Property Owner’s Association is launching a new community initiative called “52 Weeks of Thanks”. This initiative involves residents and other members of the community “adopting” the Daniel Island Fire Station one week at a time throughout the next year to show thanks and support for what they do for the Daniel Island and Charleston community.

Daniel Island Community Fund Partners with Lowcountry Food Bank to End Hunger in Cainhoy Communities

Daniel Island Residents and Businesses Raise More than a Quarter Million Dollars for City's Fallen Firefighters Fund

Community leaders on Daniel Island will gather at the City of Charleston’s municipal building in the island’s downtown on Thursday, July 26 to present a gift of more than $235,000 for the City’s Fallen Firefighters Fund. Chief Rusty Thomas will accept the gift at an informal ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.

Daniel Island Community Comes Together to Present Area Teachers with a Special Holiday Gift.

Island residents and business leaders have come together this holiday season to give a gift back to the teachers at the Daniel Island School and Cainhoy Elementary and Middle School as a thank you for all they do for the children in these communities. Each lead teacher at the two schools was presented with a $300 gift card to Target to be used for additional teaching aids and classroom supplies.
